Stian Omenås

(b.1980), Musician (trumpet / percussion), composer and conductor.
From Valldal More og Romsdal, today lives in Moss. Educated jazz trumpeter and composer from NTNU in Trondheim and ensemble conducting from the Academy in Oslo, in the period 2000-2006. Jobs today in several projects in improvised music, contemporary music and jazz. PARALLAX (touring band in the world), Lydrommet (DKS Norway) HAIKU ceremony (new art show, Stian Omenås Ensemble (new album in January 2016) and «Solo» is his main projects as a musician. Have as a trumpeter and percussionist created a unique voice in Norwegian contemporary jazz with its modernist lyrical skill, balancing between a tonal and non-tonal timbre expression.
Has played with musicians such as Louis Sclavis (FR), Terje Rypdal, Kenny Wheeler (UK), Django Bates (UK), Esperanza Spalding (US), Jon Balke, Ståle Storløkken, Christian Wallumrød Frode Alnæs Kim Myhr, Mats Eilertsen, Rob Waring, Erik Nylander, Eirik Hegdal, Trygve Seim, Nils Økland, Gjermund Larsen, Magnar Åm Jai Shankar, Mira Craig, Elvira Nicolaisen, Heidi Gjermundsen Brock, Margaret Berger, Nora Noor and many more.
Has recently written several commissioned works for among other things theater, dance, solo clarinet, solo violin, soprano and piano, concert band, big band, string quartet and symfonietta. Jobs today with new wind quintet for Army Band and new Mini Opera for DKS. A clear personal expression with chromaticism and rhythmic structures are consistently in composition work.
Is today the artistic director of Bestum Stas Music (2005-) in Oslo and music writer in Moss Avis. Received in 2007 the big spark scholarship from Sparebanken Møre and was the same year chosen as the young Norwegian jazz musician of Ungjazz Alesund. Arranged my own touring music festival «Omenås Music Festival» every year at home in western Norway, from 2004 to 2013. Artistic adviser nyMusikk dept Østfold (2012-).
